Since 1979,
Rev. Dr. Kevin W. Cosby has served as Senior Pastor of St. Stephen
Church in Louisville, Kentucky. Due greatly to his practical and
dynamic Bible teachings, the church has grown from 500 to approximately
10,000 members, and is recognized by Outreach Magazine as one
of the top 100 largest churches in America and Emerge Magazine
as one of the six super churches of the south.
During his
tenure, the church has grown from the “little church on
the corner” to a multi-faceted institution that includes
a 1,700-seat worship center, a cutting-edge $4 million inner-city
family life center, and a recently built 1,000-seat satellite
church in Jeffersonville, Indiana. In 1998, Cosby encouraged the
church to purchase and convert the original 4-acre campus of Simmons
University, once home to the oldest African-American educational
institution in the state of Kentucky, to be used as a lifestyle
enrichment campus.
In 2005, Dr.
Cosby was named the 13th President of Simmons Bible College (now
Simmons College of KY) – an appointment befitting his credentials.
Cosby, a staunch proponent of education, earned a Bachelor’s
degree from Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, KY, a Master
of Divinity degree from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary
in Louisville, KY, and a Doctor of Ministry degree from United
Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio.
He subsequently,
assumed administrative and teaching assignments at Kentucky State
University, the University of Louisville, Southern Baptist Theological
Seminary, and United Theological Seminary. Additionally, his exceptional
oratory skills have produced lecturing engagements at universities
and institutions around the world including Harvard University.
Dr. Cosby
is the author of three highly-acclaimed books: (1) Get off Your
But!: Messages, Musings & Ministries to Empower the African-American
Church, (2) As They Went, and (3) Treasure Worth Seeking, and
has just released a new book entitled, “Who’s Your
Daddy: Life Lessons from the Prodigal Son”. He has been
the subject of many national articles and documentaries, which
consistently list him among the most powerful and influential
leaders in the state of Kentucky.
Although Rev.
Cosby has achieved many notable accomplishments, the thing most
notable about him is his intense commitment to serving the Lord,
through improving the lives of others.
Dr. Cosby
is married to the former Barnetta Turner, and they are the proud
parents of two adult children.
