Dr. Kevin W. Cosby, President

Simmons College of Kentucky’sthirteenth president, Kevin W. Cosby has developed a vibrant ministry in an urban area of Louisville for 30 years. His congregation, the St. Stephen Church, under his leadership has transformed that community of West Louisville by implementing holistic ministries for all ages. He has led ministries of transformation that instill spiritual, intellectual, social and economic empowerment principles that impact community citizens who have been affected by poverty, drug addiction and many other social maladies. As a result of the creative and relevant preaching, teaching and administrative ministry of Dr. Cosby, St. Stephen Church has grown to become the 53rd largest congregation in the nation. Since his appointment as President of Simmons College of Kentucky in January of 2005, Dr. Cosby has brought these same leadership skills to enhance the mission of Simmons College of Kentucky.

Dr. Cosby has earned the following degrees:

  • D.Min. United Theological Seminary, Dayton, Ohio

  • M.Div. Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville, Kentucky

  • B.A. Eastern Kentucky University, Richmond, Kentucky

Reverend Cosby has a rich and varied professional experience:

  • Southern Baptist Theological Seminary Adjunct Professor of Christian Ministries

  • Kentucky State University Former Trustee Board member

  • Senior Pastor of St. Stephen Baptist Church, Louisville, Kentucky

His notable honors include the following:

  • The United States Department of Commerce – Minority Business Development Agency’s Regional Minority Business Advocate Award

  • The Catholic Education Foundation, Inc. Community Service Award

  • Louisville Magazine – Ranked one of the “50 Most Powerful/Influential Louisvillians” in 1994 and 2005

  • Honorary doctorate degrees from Eastern Kentucky University, Richmond, KY and Simmons College of Kentucky, Louisville, KY.

President Cosby brings reputable academic credentials, a record of professional administrative experience, extensive experience in mission in the urban context, a unique gift for practical and impactful ministry and a personal passion for kingdom missions and ministry to Simmons College of Kentucky.
