Statement of Purpose


Mission Statement 


Simmons College of Kentucky is an institution of biblical higher education dedicated to educating people in the urban context through strong academic and professional programs in order that they may become productive citizens and agents of change in society. 

 

It is the mission of the Simmons College Library to support the curriculum of the college as well as providing access to materials that touch on all avenues of human culture with special emphasis on our African American heritage, social justice, and ministry. 

College Library Goals

  • To develop and maintain a collection reflecting the goals of the institution and the guidelines established in the collection development policy.
  • To provide avenues for resource sharing to broaden the scope of research for the library user.
  • To strengthen our users’ research skills through library instruction and information literacy programs.
  • To facilitate easy and timely access to useful materials for our users’ information needs.
  • To support our students’ development of a view of life and the world rooted in the Kingdom of God through access to materials conducive to such development.
  • To support our students’ development as agents of change with a strong sense of social justice and civic duty in the urban context through access to materials intended to foster the same.
  • To support our students’ efforts toward personal self-development and professional excellence.
  • To support a population of lifelong learners through continued access and support for students, alumni, and members of the community.
  • To engage in a continuous effort of evaluation to maintain the balance, currency, and effectiveness of the collection. 

College Library Goals

  • To select and collect current materials in various formats that will enhance the collection’s utility to our users.
  • To provide facilities and equipment that will meet the needs of our users and allow access to all forms of relevant materials it is practical and useful to provide.
  • To provide materials and assistance to the faculty in order to supplement and enhance their instructional methods.
  • To contribute to the student’s educational experience by helping them to develop lifelong learning and information-seeking skills.
  • To provide adequate access to materials to meet the needs of the College community.
